چکیده

Helicobacter pylori infections are highly common amongst the global population. Such have been shown to be cause of gastric ulcers and stomach carcinoma and, unfortunately, most cases asymptomatic. Standard treatment requires antibiotics such as metronidazole or azithromycin which many strains now resistant. Mentha species used a natural for gastrointestinal diseases throughout history essential oils (EOs) derived from these plants show promising results potential antimicrobial agents. In this study, EOs obtained leaves flowers five cultivars × piperita M. spicata were examined by GC-MS. The investigated mints representatives four chemotypes: menthol chemotype (M. ‘Multimentha’ ‘Swiss’), piperitenone oxide ‘Almira’), linalool ‘Granada’), carvone ‘Moroccan’). chemical composition mint was comparable with exception Swiss cultivar. Menthol abundant component in while menthone highest flowers. H. ATCC 43504 reference strain 10 other clinical their sensitivity addition major monoterpenoid components (menthol, menthone, carvone, dihydrocarvone, linalool, 1,8-cineole, limonene). All tested showed inhibitory activity against both (MIC 15.6–31.3 mg/L) (MIC50/90 31.3–250 mg/L/62.5–500 mg/L). Among monoterpenes, 7.8/31.3 31.3/62.5 had anti-H. activity, also correlated higher containing compounds ‘Swiss’ A synergistic additive interaction between active EOs/compounds possibly points new plant-based treatment.
